The General Police Equipment Conference (GPEC®) 2010

The General Police Equipment Conference (GPEC®) 2010 took place in Leipzig, Germany. For 3 days, the trade show hosted internal state security, police equipment, industrial site security and civil defence in and throughout Asia & Europe. Considered one of the most highly trusted events for exhibiting various security equipments and technology and under the patronage of the Federal Minister of the Interior Dr. Thomas de Maizière, MdB., GPEC was attended by military and police members of Line of Fire.  Over 6,204 professional visitors from 58 countries, individuals met with 475 exhibitors (320 national and 155 international ones) from 24 countries from 5 continents and informed themselves about developments, technologies and trends in the field of police and special equipment.

Held every two years, GPEC is one of Europe's largest and most important Police Equipment and Technology Conferences.  GEPC allowed Line of Fire to be introduced into the European market and European standards known as VPAM.  GPEC® 2010 saw an increase in the number of professional visitors (increase by 4 % compared to 2008) and was visited by security experts from 58 countries. GPEC® strengthened and extended its position as Europe’s biggest closed specialised trade fair for police and special equipment in Germany. Especially remarkable is the strongly increased internationality with exhibitors and visitors alike.

The specialized trade fair and the elements of the programme of fringe events showed clearly two developments:

1. Increased integration of internal and external security

2. Growing interdepartmental co-operation in solving state security tasks

Canadian Aerospace and Defense Security Conference

Line of Fire Inc. attended the Canadian Aerospace and Defense Security Conference in Ottawa, Ontario.  With attendance increasing every year at CANSEC and Line of Fire’s second year in attendance, the company was seen in a different light.  With a variety of products ranging from our unique hard armour, our textile systems, and Line of Fire’s new line of soft armour systems, one of the highlights during the conference was the interest in the idea of a threat-based protective system versus meeting minimum laboratory standards, bringing a product that is both durable, multi-hit against various calibers as well as the laboratory standard, as a favourable alternative.

When the conference was over, close to 9,000 registrants had represented their companies, an increase of close to 10% in total registrations over last year’s event and meal and reception attended by 3,700 people. In addition to 250 exhibiting companies in the three separate exhibition halls, CANSEC 2010 featured for the second year an outdoor display which providing 15 exhibitors an opportunity to showcase their larger equipment and capabilities to visiting customers. CANSEC 2010 offered speeches by some of the top names in the defence and security sector, including General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, and David Jacobson, US Ambassador to Canada.

This year’s show also introduced a new format for the Future Technology Watch Pavilion & presentations by DRDC and industry on how their collaborations are working to meet the capability needs of the Canadian Forces.  As delegates walked the red carpet from the presentations, they were met by an up and coming Alberta company: Line of Fire Inc. As a result, a great deal of traffic directed delegates and visitors alike to the Line of Fire booth. During the conference, the company was described as no longer being a “Freshman” in the defense industry, taking on an aggressive role in helping to protect all individuals at every level.  Line of Fire continued to solicit interest from a variety of organizations, reconnecting and opening up new avenues of business.  Line of Fire has made themselves known as a new, potential supplier of body armor in Canada.
