Q&A

Question: Why is your armor a Level III plate and not a Level IV plate?

Answer: The answer starts with understanding the threats that our armor was specifically designed to stop. The M2AP armor piercing round that qualifies a Level IV plate is NOT the threat level that most operators are facing. Without a doubt, it is a deadly round but it is hard to come by and access is controlled. On the other hand, it is easier to get large calibre hunting rounds like a .300 or .338 Winchester Magnum; our armor can stop these large calibre threats multiple times without spalling. All Line of Fire products undergo rigorous testing to ensure that they out-perform in the real world.

In laboratory testing using a new three-barrelled gun designed to simulate machine-gun fire, our Line of Fire Level III equivilant  plate was subjected to this very real world scenario. At 700 rounds per minute and a shot grouping of 47mm x 7mm x 47 mm, our stand-alone Level III equivilant armor stopped the first three-round burst of 7.62x39mm (123 grain) ammunition with an average velocity of 2,352 feet per second. The SAME Line of Fire Level III equivilant plate stopped another three-round burst using 7.62x51mm NATO M80 ball (148 grain) ammunition with an average velocity of 2,752 feet per second.
This test proved the true multi-hit capability of the Line of Fire Level III equivilant plate in a real-world scenario.

To prove the extreme durability of the Line of Fire Level III equivilant  armor, the SAME Level III equivilant plate which stopped both three-round bursts was dropped onto a concrete floor from five feet (5’) before each shot grouping.

Our Line Of Fire Level III equivilant  plate is not only a true multi-hit capable solution against modern day threats but it is also incredibly durable and can withstand the constant day-to-day abuse. With Line of Fire armor there are no caveats like – do not drop, do not get wet or handle with care.

Question: Are Line of Fire plates waterproof?

Answer: Yes. Both Line of Fire Protector and Tactical  hard armor plates were subjected to extreme testing in both fresh and salt water. Our Line of Fire hard armor plates were subjected to the new NIJ 0101.06 standard by being submerged for four (4) hours before being shot. Both the hard armor plates from Line of Fire passed intial NIJ 0101.06 testing with significantly less than the allowed backface signature but requires more testing for formal NIJ Certification. Further proof that Line of Fire provides armor solutions that are designed to outperform in real world situations.
When your job involves a marine environment, when you are responsible to defend the safety of the coast or when you are part of the raiding party – your armor should stand-up to the elements that you do. Your armor should be part of the mission solution.

Question: Have you tested to the NIJ 0101.06?

Answer: Yes. All Line of Fire hard armor products have found to comply in accordance to the  NIJ 0101.06  but require further testing to recieve formal  NIJ 0101.06 certification.

Question: Why is your product not referred to as a trauma plate?

Answer: A trauma plate is designed to work together with soft body armor to provide additional protection. Most trauma plates are relatively small; they protect a localized area but do not provide much protection against higher calibre threats. Our Line of Fire hard armor plates provides operators with a significantly larger area of protection in our standard 10” by 12” plate. We provide 120 square inches of protection against sharps, blunt trauma, hand gun and specified rifle rounds – taking shots that are close together or on the edge while being extremely durable and waterproof.

Line of Fire hard armour has been engineered to provide superior protection as a standalone solution. Our armor is not lab tested “in conjunction” with soft armor. It is tested as a standalone product. In fact, our Level IIIA (yet to be certified) hard armor plate is capable of defeating the .44 Magnum semi-jacket hollow point (SJHP) rounds as required by the NIJ 0101.06 standard but can also defeat certain rifle rounds – specifically 5.56mm x 45mm (62 grain) full metal jacket (FMJ) rounds (fired from an assault rifle like an AR-15).

Question: What makes your product different than others on the market?

Answer: Line Of Fire’s hard armor plates are different from more conventional armor. All armor is subjected to laboratory testing but this testing does not replicate the threat environment that exists for today’s soldier or tactical officer.

Conventional armor does not like the heat or the cold, it does not like being dropped or subjected to day to day abuse. It also may not stop the rounds you think it should. Line of Fire hard armor is different and sets a new benchmark in standardized tests. Our armor can withstand the heat, the cold and the constant day-to-day abuse that comes with the job – your job. With Line of Fire armor your confidence will build - out of the helicopter, transport or armored vehicle as you are hitting the ground running, taking cover and getting it done.

We offer you the protection you deserve.
